1)
Location of Potential Project:
Lightning Dock is located in the Southwestern portion
of New Mexico in the Animas Valley of Hidalgo County.
2) Type of project:
Binary
3) Status of project:
Lightning Dock has been identified as a major potential
geothermal resource in New Mexico. Lightning Dock first
saw drilling back in 1983. Four deep gradient holes
and one Test for Discovery Well 55-7 were drilled in
Lightning Dock in the 1980s. New drilling took place
over the last 4 years, which determined that Lightning
Dock can be utilized for power production. Its geothermal
resources have been used for direct use purposes for
25 years. Holes were drilled with the help of the DOE
GeoPowering the West program and Cooperative Agreements
with DOE for the EGS and GRED programs. There are plans
underway to build a 20MW power plant. Deep test wells
drilled at Lightning Dock found a resource of 307°
F at 1,250 feet, and found a 285° F at 700 feet
extending to 2,500 feet, with formation capability for
sustained production.
