The Heber Geothermal Plant began commercial operation
in 1985. The facility is the largest dual-flash geothermal
steam plant in the United States, producing 52 megawatts
of electricity by means of a Mitsubishi turbine-generator.
This electricity is sold to Southern California Edison.
Heber Field Company supplies the facility with steam
and brine from 11 artesian, slant-drilled wells, which
can produce more than 8 million pounds of brine-steam
mixture per hour.
As of December 2005, a Power Purchase Agreement had
been signed by Southern California Public Power Authority
that will bring an additional 10 MW to the Heber Geothermal
Complex. Information about the additional megawatts
can be found here.
